Pine Fronds Silk Haori

  • A lovely, black, pure silk haori kimono jacket with a big swish of leaves on the back and a little one on the front, with gold detailing
  • Complete with silk himo (silk, braided front ties), usually bought separately
  • Authentic, vintage, Japanese haori jacket
  • Made and bought in Japan
  • 100% silk, inside and out
  • Fully lined (awase)
  • Any large, loose, white stitching around the edges of my garments is just put there by the Japanese to keep edges neat during storage. These stitches are called shitsuke and are just pulled out before wearing
  • Haori do not overlap at the front and don't need an obi/sash. They can be worn closed, fronts edge to edge, tied under the edges with a himo (usually bought separately). They look equally fabulous when dressed up for evening wear or dressed down with jeans
  • It will be sent folded in the traditional way. The Japanese have a specific and clever way of folding kimonos that allows them to be opened up and worn without ironing every time, as the creases from the folds lie in such a way that they look smart. I will include instructions on how to fold the kimono in this manner
  • My Japanese garments are vintage items. I make every effort to inspect them for flaws and mention any I find in the listings with accompanying photos. It is always possible, though unlikely, that I have overlooked something but, if I have, it will be something very inconspicuous and I would never deliberately omit mentioning anything. I'm pretty confident, however, that if an item has any flaw, I will have spotted it and mentioned it in the listing, with accompanying photos. Being vintage items, a few smell a bit of mothballs, though most don't. Do not wash silk haori, dry clean only

  • Japanese haori; a long kimono jacket, with swinging kimono sleeves. Traditionally worn loose over kimono and obi, fastened with a front tie (haori himo) on centre front edge, but also lovely worn with contemporary clothing, such as jeans, skirts and dresses, either worn loose or cinched in with a belt or sash. So beautifully made, with hidden raw edges, that they can even be worn inside out, with the often beautifully decorative upper lining on show.

Much more haori infornation can be found in the Kimono Information section of the website (page 13, "Haori Kimono Jackets - Japan's Secret Treasure"). Worth a read it prior to puchase.
