A very beautiful, antique, tamatebako (Japanese treasure box), with black lacquer on the outside and a gold urushi, hand applied design of cranes and pines, with a touch or red (they are Japan's red crowned cranes) It also has a lovely mother of pearl detail. This will have been frighteningly expensive when made by skilled, Japanese artisans.
