- A girl's pretty kimono, white with red and pink stripes
- With long ties. the tie on the right front is put through the opening in the body under the left arm and taken round to the outer back. The tie on the left front is taken round to the back on the outside. They can either be tied at the back or continued round to the front and tied there, although usually tied at the back
- Rayon textile
- Made and bought in Japan
- If wished a soft heko obi can be worn on top
- Children's kimonos are traditionally always worn with a big tuck in each shoulder, visible and stitched on the outside, and ones like this would be worn with a big fold-over of fabric at the waist, effectively making it much shorter when worn. Without the tucks and fold over, they may seem large for the age that is intended to wear them
- Kimono Fronts: Kimonos are always worn with left front on top of right, by both men and women. The Japanese use the phrase phrase, ‘left over rice’, to remember this. They never wear them with the right front on top, only the dead wear them that way
- The Japanese take great pains to store their traditional garments with the utmost care, which is why they stay in such exceptional condition. Some of my Japanese garments have large, white stitching (shitsuke) round the edges. The Japanese put these stitches in to keep the edges flat during long periods of storage, these stitches just get pulled out before wearing the garment
Please be aware that different monitors display colour slightly differently. Therefore the colour in the photos and description is a guide only
Condition:
Excellent – small, very minor marking on th back collar, inside and a tiny dot on the backof one sleeve. May sponge off, especially if done with acetyl alcohol (or vodka)
Measurements approx:
Will fit a variety of sizes, especially if worn the traditional way, with shoulder and waist tucks, I'd say up to about age 6 BUT please judge purely by measurements given
Sleeve end to sleeve end 81cm
Sleeve seam to sleeve seam 32cm
Sleeve depth 60cm
Length 100cm
Japanese clothing is usually of adjustable fit, being mostly wrap-over or tie-to-fit items, so most garments fit a range of sizes. Because of this (and only really knowing my own size anyway) I can't really advise anyone on the fit. Please judge fit from the measurements given. Measure from centre back of neck, along shoulder and down the arm to the wrist, then double that and compare it with the sleeve end measurement to judge sleeve length.
