Dark Red Flower Trail Ko Furisode
  • A dark, slightly muted red, ko furisode kimono, with trailing flowers on one sleeve and shoulder at the front and the other at the back. A truer red than it appears in the photos on my monitor
  • This furisode is designed to also look good with women's hakama. You can see a picture of such an outfit below this kimono's photos
  • Gently hand washable (do not soak or rub and use only detergent for colours, just gently squeeze the water through it to wash it and rinse it). Synthetic textile, the Japanese excel at making great synthetic textiles.
  • Made and bought in Japan

Condition:
Excellent - unused

Measurements:
Sleeve end to sleeve end 128cm
Sleeve seam to sleeve seam (yuki) 62cm
Sleeve depth 74cm
Length 162cm
Type:
A ko-furisode kimono. Furisode means swinging sleeves, which, on furisodes, are incredibly deep sleeves, and ko means small, so a ko-furisode is a furisode kimono with slightly less deep sleeves, but still extremely deep. They are wor by young, unmarried women on special occasions such as weddings, seijinshiki, graduation ceremonies etc. Once married or over about 30 years old, they stop wearing them. Furisodes cost thousands of pounds, 6,000 to 10,000 is not unusual and some cost way more. Even synthetic fabric ones cost thousands. They are usually hired nowadays as they are too expensive to own just for special occasions but even hiring one is incredibly expensive

  • Kimono require a sash to hold them closed. This is always bought separately. Men usually wear a kaku obi with their kimono or, casually at home, a soft heko obi

Sizing: Japanese clothing is usually of adjustable fit, being mostly wrap-over or tie-to-fit items, so most garments fit a range of sizes. Because of this (and only really knowing my own size anyway) I can't really advise anyone on the fit. Please judge fit from the measurements given. Check length given for the garment, then measure from base of back of your neck down to judge that length on you
Also measure from centre back of neck, along shoulder and down the arm to the wrist, then double that and compare it with the sleeve end measurement to judge sleeve length

Some of my garments have white stitching (shitsuke) round the outside edges to keep the edges flat during long periods of storage, these stitches just get pulled out before wearing the garment

Cleaning: Be very cautious about washing kimonos. All cleaning is done entirely at your own risk, as is standard with all vintage garments and items. I would advise only dry cleaning

Colour: Please be aware that different monitors display colour slightly differently. Therefore the colour in the photos and description is a guide only
